Day 01: Fes - Azrou - Atlas - Midelt - Imilchil
We leave the spiritual ancient Medina of Fes after an early breakfast and drive south for the Middle Atlas Mountains. Our tour takes us through the hige cedar forests of Azrou and Ifrane where you may see the indigenous Barbary monkeys that live there. It is a great opportunity to see wildlife and perhaps get some great photos. We will stop for lunch in a typical village. This is a picturesque part of the country, driving through the mountains, along rivers and vast rugged landscapes you will see nomadic people living a frugal lifestyle with their animals. At the small town of Rich, we will take the road for Imilchil where we will overnight and have dinner in a local hotel.
Day 02: Imilchil - Todra Gorge - Merzouga - Camel trekking and night in the desert
After a typical local breakfast we leave Imilchil and drive to the Todra Gorge; as we enter you will see the vertical walls rise up either side, here you can enjoy a walk by the clear waters of the river. As we drive out of the canyon you can see the adobe Berber villages and the oases that will lead us south to the desert. We will make stops so you can take photos as there are many amazing views. We will pass through Tinjdad, Jorf and Erfoud where you will see the beginning of the Saharan oasis of Tafilalet. The landscapes change as the desert beckons us on; Merzouga is our next stop where our camels are waiting. They will take you across the dunes to your camp for the night; this is a wonderful experience, the silence is profound and the vista quite incredible; a memory you will return to many times. On the way to the camp, there will be a break to enjoy the magical moment when the sun sets over the dunes. In the camp dinner will be served along with some local Berber music and an amazing blanket of stars overhead to wow you.
Day 03: Merzouga - Ziz Valley - Midelt - Fes
After an early wake up call, you can watch the sunrise, the colours changing as it moves across the dunes, the silence as we ride the camels backing to Merzouga; all make for wonderful unforgettable moments. In Merzouga you can take a shower and enjoy the breakfast before we start the journey to Fes. We will take a different way through the Ziz Valley and Midelt, from there through Azrou and arrive back in Fes in the early evening.
