The Best-Selling Sahara Escape — 2 Days, Zero Long Drives

€160 €130

Start from / per person

This is the most popular desert tour in Morocco for travelers who want the full Sahara experience without losing days to driving. Starting from Errachidia — just 2 hours from the Erg Chebbi dunes — this 2-day private tour packs everything into a perfect weekend: a sunset camel trek, a night in a luxury desert camp, a Saharan sunrise, and a visit to the ancient Rissani souk.

You will cross the Ziz Valley with its 5 million date palms, explore Erfoud's fossil workshops, ride camels into the golden dunes, sleep under a sky full of stars, and wake to silence and orange light over the Sahara. If you have limited time but refuse to compromise on the desert, this is the tour every traveler books first.

A typical 2-day Errachidia desert tour covers the Ziz Valley, Erfoud, Erg Chebbi camel trekking, a luxury camp night, sunrise over the dunes, and Rissani's traditional market — all with only 2 hours of driving each way.

2-Day Itinerary from Errachidia to the Sahara

Perfectly paced for a weekend escape.

1

Day 1: Errachidia → Ziz Valley → Erfoud → Merzouga → Camel Trek → Luxury Desert Camp

Your Sahara adventure begins with pickup from your Errachidia hotel or the airport. We drive south through the Tafilalet region, stopping first at a panoramic viewpoint over the Ziz Valley. The sea of green date palms against the red rock cliffs is one of Morocco's most photographed landscapes.

We continue to Erfoud, a town built on a 350-million-year-old seabed. Visit a local fossil workshop where craftsmen polish ancient orthoceras and ammonites into tables, fountains, and decorative bowls. It is a fascinating glimpse into the Sahara's prehistoric past.

By late afternoon, we arrive in Merzouga. After mint tea and a brief rest, your camel guide prepares the caravan for the sunset trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes. The 1.5-hour ride moves at a gentle pace, with a stop on a high dune to watch the sun disappear and the sand cool from gold to violet.

At the camp, settle into your private luxury tent with proper beds, en-suite bathroom, and hot shower. Dinner is a traditional Moroccan feast, followed by Berber drumming around the fire. Climb the dunes afterward for stargazing in zero light pollution.

Driving time: approximately 2 hours. Camel trek: 1.5 hours.

2

Day 2: Sunrise → Rissani Souk → Return to Errachidia

Wake early for the sunrise over Erg Chebbi. The silence and color changes are unforgettable. After breakfast at the camp, return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4.

If today falls on a market day (Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday), we visit the Rissani souk — one of the most authentic markets in Morocco. Donkeys carry goods through narrow alleys while vendors sell dates, spices, carpets, and livestock. It is chaotic, colorful, and completely unspoiled by tourism. If it is not market day, we visit the Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif and the historic ksar instead.

We enjoy tea in Rissani before driving back to Errachidia, arriving by mid-afternoon in time for your onward flight or next destination.

Driving time: approximately 2 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Real questions travelers ask about this 2-day Errachidia desert tour.

Is 2 days enough to see the Sahara properly?

Yes. Because Errachidia is only 2 hours from Merzouga, you get a full afternoon, evening, night, and morning in the desert. You experience sunset, stars, sunrise, and a camel trek — the core Sahara highlights — without rushing. The only thing you miss is extra activities like Khamlia or a 4×4 excursion, which our 3-day tour includes.

How far is Errachidia from Merzouga?

130 km, approximately 2 hours by car. This is the shortest drive of any major city to the Erg Chebbi dunes. Marrakech is 9–10 hours away, and Fes is 7–8 hours.

What is included in the 2-day tour price?

Private 4×4 transport, English-speaking driver, 1 night in a luxury desert camp with dinner and breakfast, camel trekking, sandboarding, Rissani souk visit, and airport/hotel pickup and drop-off in Errachidia.

What is not included?

Lunches, drinks, travel insurance, and tips. Tips for the driver (50–100 MAD/day for the group) and camp staff (20–50 MAD) are customary but optional.

Can I book this tour if my flight lands in Errachidia at 10:00 AM?

Yes. We monitor flight arrivals and will pick you up directly from Errachidia Airport (ERH). By noon you are in Merzouga, and by late afternoon you are on camels. The schedule is designed specifically for flight arrivals.

What if my flight leaves Errachidia early on Day 2?

We can adjust the Day 2 schedule. If you need to reach the airport by 2:00 PM, we skip Rissani and drive directly from Merzouga to Errachidia (2 hours). You still get the sunrise and breakfast at the camp.

Is the camel trek uncomfortable?

No. The camels walk slowly, led by an experienced handler. The ride to camp is about 1.5 hours with a break for sunset photos. If you prefer, we can drive you to the camp by 4×4.

What should I pack for one night in the desert?

A small backpack with warm layers (desert nights are cold), a scarf for wind, sunscreen, sunglasses, a camera, and a power bank. Your main luggage stays at the Merzouga hotel if needed.

How cold does it get at night?

Spring and autumn nights are 12–18°C. Winter nights (December–February) can drop to 5°C. Summer nights are mild, but daytime heat is extreme. Our luxury camp provides thick blankets and proper beds.

Is this tour private or shared?

Fully private. Your group has its own vehicle and driver. There are no shared departures from Errachidia.

Can I upgrade to a luxury camp with en-suite bathroom?

Yes. Our standard 2-day tour already includes the luxury camp with private en-suite tents and hot showers. This is not an extra upgrade — it is the default because travelers who start from Errachidia value comfort after saving time on driving.

Is the tour suitable for children?

Absolutely. The short drives make this ideal for families. Children love the camel ride and sandboarding. Baby seats are available on request.

"We only had a weekend and did not want to waste it in a car. We flew Casablanca to Errachidia Saturday morning, did this 2-day tour, and flew back Sunday evening. It felt like a week-long adventure. The camp was stunning, the camel ride was gentle, and Rissani souk was like stepping back in time. Best value tour we have ever booked."

"I have done the 3-day Marrakech to Merzouga tour before. This 2-day from Errachidia was better in every way. Same dunes, same camp, same magic — but no 9-hour drive. Our driver was waiting at the airport, and 2 hours later we were drinking tea in Merzouga. If you are short on time, this is the only way to do it."

"The sunrise was life-changing. I have never seen so many stars. The luxury tent had a proper toilet and hot shower — I did not expect that in the middle of the Sahara. The Rissani market was wild; we bought dates and spices for gifts. Highly recommend for anyone who wants maximum experience with minimum driving."

"We were a group of 6 friends. Private 4×4, flexible schedule, and the driver knew all the best photo spots. Sandboarding was hilarious. We will never forget the drumming around the fire. This tour is perfectly organized."
